WINTER HARBOR — Schoodic Institute invites the public to hear common misconceptions about growing fruit trees in Maine in Brown Bag: Backyard Orcharding in Downeast Maine” noon-1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, in Moore Auditorium at Schoodic Institute, 65 Acadia Drive. Apricots and Asian pears do quite well in Maine, but what else? Presenter Richard J. Ossolinski will discuss fruit varieties, rootstocks, diseases, pests, grafting, predator control, chemicals and, of course, the rewards that result from doing things right.
