At Hermon, Alex Applebee limited No. 12 Maine Central Institute to two earned runs over 5 2/3 innings to help fifth-seeded Hermon earn a Class B preliminary win.

Applebee, who struck out six and walked three, was backed by a double and a single from Keith Pomeroy. Adam Rush, Kent Johnson, Wyatt Gogan and Mark Mailloux posted two singles apiece.

MCI of Pittsfield was led by Pedro Matos with a triple and two singles and Owen Williams with 3 singles.
